Smart Rules

Smart Rules

A guided strategy builder that turns search-term data into keywords and negatives — no code.

Smart Rules are a focused, no-code companion to the automation language for one job: the research → harvest → scale loop. A Smart Rule watches a source campaign's search terms and, on its schedule, promotes converting terms into keywords and negates wasteful ones — so winning terms scale and losers stop spending, without manual harvesting sessions.

Anatomy of a Smart Rule

  1. Source — the campaign (optionally specific ad groups) whose search terms are evaluated. Typically an auto or broad “research” campaign.
  2. Conditions — metric checks a term must pass, combined with AND or OR: e.g. orders ≥ 2 AND acos ≤ 0.30, over a lookback window you choose (or lifetime).
  3. Bid — what the new keyword should bid (see harvesting for the resolution details).
  4. Targets — one or more campaigns/ad groups that receive the action, each with its own checkboxes: promote as exact / phrase / broad, negate as exact / phrase.

The classic setup is a two-campaign flywheel: research campaign as source, negate-exact at the source, promote-exact into a manual “performance” campaign — each matched term migrates to precise control and stops being re-bought loosely at the source.

Same engine, same safety

Smart Rules run through the same machinery as automation rules: runs can be previewed, run in review or auto mode, appear in Change history, respect the change cap, and are fully revertible. Manual runs default to review; scheduled runs apply. With linked accounts, a Smart Rule can even harvest from one Amazon account into another — writes route to whichever account owns the target campaign.

Smart Rule or script? Use a Smart Rule for cross-campaign harvesting/negation with a visual builder. Use the language (see the cookbook) when you need custom logic — trend comparisons, cool-downs, bid formulas — or actions beyond keywords.
